HONESTY - EFFORT - ACCOUNTABILITY - RESPECT - TEAMWORK
Empowering today’s youth to lead with heart in tomorrow’s world.
Across Ontario youth are navigating challenges unlike any generation before them. Behind the smiles, social media posts, and report cards, many are quietly struggling with pressure, confusion, and disconnection.
More than 1 in 5 youth in Ontario report poor mental health, and that number continues to rise each year. Many say they feel anxious, unseen, or unsure where to turn for help. A growing number report feeling isolated — even when surrounded by peers.
At HYI, we believe mental health starts with connection. By creating safe, judgment-free spaces where youth can express themselves, we help them rediscover confidence and belonging.
Human trafficking, online exploitation, and grooming aren’t distant issues — they’re happening right here.
Over 60% of human trafficking cases in Ontario originate in the GTA, and 70% of identified victims are under the age of 25. Many were targeted through peers or social media before they even realized they were at risk.
HYI tackles this reality head-on through awareness and mentorship, helping young people recognize red flags, build boundaries, and protect one another.
Too many youth are growing up without positive role models. In Canada, nearly 1 in 4 young people say they don’t have a single adult they can confide in. Without guidance, small mistakes can snowball into lifelong consequences.
Our initiative connects youth with trusted mentors — from educators and youth workers to barbers, artists, police officers, and entrepreneurs — real people with real-world experience who care enough to listen.
Social media has blurred the line between self-expression and self-worth. Many youth admit they compare themselves constantly, chase likes, or feel inadequate when their real lives don’t match what they see online.
HYI provides workshops that help youth separate validation from value. We teach them to use social media consciously, not as a measure of worth, but as a tool for learning.
Shaking hands, making eye contact, having a conversation, the "simple skills" are fading. Many young people are confident behind a screen but unsure in person. This gap creates anxiety, limits opportunities, and affects relationships.
Through interactive workshops, team-based challenges, and creative projects, HYI rebuilds these essential life skills. We teach youth how to speak up, own their mistakes, and stand tall — in every sense of the word.
